“It Takes a Village” is an inspiring conservation project based in Rwanda, East Africa, conducted in partnership with Red Rocks Initiatives, and Gorilla Guardians Village, aimed at monitoring and safeguarding the critically endangered mountain gorillas. At the forefront of innovative conservation efforts, “It Takes a Village” harnesses the power of WatchSpotter data collection to enhance their conservation strategies. Through the WatchSpotter application, dedicated rangers and volunteers can efficiently record and report vital observations of mountain gorillas and their behaviors in real-time. The data collected through WatchSpotter provides valuable insights into the gorillas’ movements, health, and interactions, empowering researchers and conservationists to make informed decisions about protection and habitat management. This pioneering use of technology fosters a collaborative and data-driven approach, allowing “It Takes a Village” and Red Rocks Initiatives to unite local communities and conservation experts in their mission to secure a brighter future for the majestic mountain gorillas and the rich biodiversity of Rwanda’s wilderness.
